Stay Politically Active

If there an activity or organization you think should be added to this page, send an email to eldoradoprogressives@gmail.com.

The Progressive Alliance publishes a monthly calendar of events and programs you can become involved with. Check here for the most recent one.

Reclaim Our Vote

Here is an opportunity to continue your activism while quarantined. This group’s volunteers are reaching out to people in communities in states with a history of voter suppression. The volunteers are letting people know if they been removed from the rolls or just helping people to register to vote. If this interests you, visit this site to get more information and sign up. This is important right now because some of these areas have actual elections coming up, not just primaries.

Text Bank Saturdays—Virtual Training

Keep up the fight for democracy, while we flatten the curve on the coronavirus! Lots of texting action to mobilize progressives and democrats in swing states and elsewhere. Find dates of trainings and sign up here. Program of Swing Left 2020 Coalition.

Help with Census Outreach

El Dorado County is behind in its Census 2020 response. The Census determines how billions of federal dollars are spent and how many Congressional members represent us. Volunteer with the California Democratic Party’s virtual phone bank and encourage residents in El Dorado and Placer Counties to participate in the 2020 Census. Just sign up for the day you would like to make calls, and they’ll send you the phone bank link. If you are a bilingual English-Spanish speaker, you are doubly needed—but you don’t have to speak Spanish. Click here to register.

Donate Things to Those Who Need Them

Many, many people are suddenly out of work. The schools are closed and children who relied on school meals largely have been left empty-handed. And most of our county’s homeless are still homeless. Please consider donating to these organizations to help out.

The Upper Room Dining Hall

They are preparing box meals daily and delivering them to the local homeless camps. They welcome items in individual packets, and things that do not require heating and cooking. See the attached list. Kathleen Barco will come to your home to pick up your donation if you live along the Hwy 50 corridor between Pollock Pines and Cameron Park or you can deliver the food yourself. They are also very short of funds because their fundraisers have been cancelled—donations of money are welcomed! In addition to food items (see attached list), they also are requesting used paperback/hardbound books, travel-size toiletries and personal hygiene supplies. To contact Kathleen for a pick-up, write to eldoradoprogressives@gmail.com. Also, all of the Upper Rooms fundraisers have been cancelled and they would greatly appreciate your monetary donation. See the front page of their website.

Help Immigrant Families

EDP’s Allied with Immigrants Workgroup has joined an effort to help gather food and supplies and deliver them to immigrant families that are out of work and have no government aid. We can really use help gathering food right now. If you are able to help we will be scheduling drop-off points in Placerville. We are already supporting 20 families in Placer and El Dorado Counties. Please see the AWI flyer for more information.
