Housing El Dorado (HED) continues work to increase affordable housing and services for our homeless neighbors.  We work in a strong partnership with the Upper Room to provide a variety of services.

· We successfully completed the Pathways Winter Lodging Program at Green Valley Church and provided 90 nights of housing, food, and other necessities to a total of 49 unhoused individuals. In addition, navigation services assisted people to obtain health benefits, IDs, addiction treatment, and other services.

· Our workforce and affordable housing advocacy has yielded clear results, including successfully recruiting Jamboree Housing, a non-profit housing developer, to submit a proposal to build housing at the Placerville. The proposal was approved in May 2021 by the State of California and will result in approximately 80 affordable/workforce apartment homes with support services.

· HED supports a Day Navigation Program at the Upper Room and received an Endow El Dorado Grant and Women's Fund of El Dorado Grant to support staff and purchase technology to assist in providing services.

· HED provides transportation and support for a weekly Shower Project offered at Green Valley Church to provide hygiene services to our homeless neighbors.

· HED submitted a comprehensive three-year grant proposal to El Dorado County to provide Interim Housing and Case Management Services at a County purchased facility.

· Planning is underway for a 2021-22 Winter Lodging Project.

· Our community needs an Emergency Shelter Program. HED is searching for property and exploring forming a Housing Trust.

· A major fundraising campaign is underway to support all of these efforts. The volunteer Board of Directors and Committee members need help and hope that our community will respond to this fundraising effort and allow HED to hire an Executive Director.

Please Help

Community Fundraiser for Winter Housing for the Homeless on the Western Slope

The faith-based Nomadic Winter Shelter, which served our community for the last 10 years, is unable to continue offering their services. This leaves our community with a critical gap in services for homeless individuals and families during the coldest months of the year.

A community collaboration is working to start up a new Winter Housing Program for the Western Slope. The El Dorado Community Foundation is working with us, bringing their expertise and fiscal experience. Our goal is $200,000.

This money will pay for facility rental and staff to manage the program and its services.

The COVID-19 pandemic adds further complication and expense to this work.

We hope that individuals, businesses and organizations in our community will come forward to provide donations to support this urgent effort. And, hopefully another stimulus check will help some people have extra money to give generously.

Please use the link shown below to make your tax deductible donation to the Housing El Dorado Fund, if at all possible. ALSO: there is a link below to forward this message through your own email. Would you send it to friends and ask them to contribute as well?

Thank you very much for your generosity and help,

From the Steering Committee:

Charles McDonald and Eugene Haydu, Upper Room Dining Hall

Peg and Don Vanderkar of Project Room Key and the Nomadic Shelter
