Standing Against Racism with Art

Friday and Saturday, July 17th and July 18th

Placerville Town Hall

Civil Rights Now (a workgroup of the El Dorado Progressives) is organizing an artistic display of signs and other art (with few or no words) to be displayed at the Placerville Town Hall on July 17-18 from 2-7 PM. Although we are emphasizing visual art, if you are a poet and would like to contribute a poem, your poetry would be a welcome contribution!

The City Council has generously donated the space to us. CRN has been working with the city and county governments as well as law enforcement toward the end of reducing the negative impacts of racism in our community. The art display is intended to build up the community and to provide a voice to people who have suffered as a result of racial injustice; including observers, recipients, and participants. The topics are:
1. Standing against racism
2. Hopes for a just future.

Attendees will be required to wear face masks.
Space is limited to 20 participants at a time and the exhibits will be socially distanced by family group. There will also be spoken word and poetry.

Would you be able to contribute art? Is there any possibility of sharing this information with other artists you know? We are looking for simple, visually impactful graphics and/or poems to fill Town Hall.

Thank you so much for any way you might be able to support this effort.
